The Founding Pillars of Kedgeree Design

Creation is an exciting time. It’s a whirlwind of ideas, excitement, and the promise of new beginnings. But often, the product of such excitement whittles away without the backbone of ideals. The creation of Kedgeree is centred around the principle of always being true to our three ideals- Ind-Brit, Sustainable, and Artisanal.

In introducing our brand to the internet, we’d like to explain what each of these ideals means to us, but more so what you can look forward to with all our products!

Ind-Brit

Everything from Swagata and I’s personality, the language we use, to our sense of style, is a dynamic mixture of all the places we’ve lived in. We’re always surprised with the ease with which cultural aesthetics constantly borrow and lend to one another, but more so are struck by how beautifully one culture works to compliment another. India, my first home, and England, my current home, stand as beautiful examples of this fact.

Kedgeree is a diary that constantly rethinks and celebrates how Indian and British cultures complement each other. All of our designs perpetuate a strong sense of Indian motifs while talking to a specific British sensibility.

Sustainable

Creating pieces that weigh lightly on the earth is at the heart of what we do at Kedgeree. We’re constantly rethinking age-old Indian practices of block printing, and dyeing can be made more sustainable.

Artisanal

The more I see of the world, and the older I grow, I value the touch of the human hand above all else. Each of our pieces receives the undivided love and personal attention of our in-house artists. Each piece wears the distinct mark of being made by the beautiful inconsistency of a brushstroke or printing block wielded by a human hand.

What this also does is effectively cuts down any risks of overconsumption and overproduction.
